Once used to serve rice to guests to a minshiku (private inn) during the 1940s, these bowls are among our favourite vintage Japanese Arita porcelain pieces. Their previous owner has even kept two for herself.
Each is hand-painted with blue leaves accented with tiny veins of gold and features deep orange-red persimmons. The glaze gives the bowls a glassy gloss and has an unusual subtle hint of celadon green.
We particularly love their bases, which hold the bowls away from the table, apparently to help keep the rice inside warm for longer.
