Made from marine waste collected from the shores of Japan, the Buoy Marine Plastic Deco Plant Pot is the result of dedicated research into recycling plastic without adding extra material.

Each cute rotund pot — the perfect size for a small desktop houseplant — is made from the equivalent of 35 PET-bottle lids, has a drainage hole, plus its own matching small saucer that also fits on top perfectly like a lid.

The colours — mixtures of hues of the original plastics — even indicate where the waste was collected. Prefectural shores in Japan often find themselves polluted with similar coloured waste. Red and blue hail from Fukui, yellow and white from Kanagawa.

To see other recycled marine plastic items, take a look at our Buoy collection.

When we came across Buoy, we were blown away by its dedication to reducing plastic pollution. Not only has it invented a way to melt together scraps of countless different resins into a new material without any bonding agents— a notoriously difficult task — but it even organizes its own beach cleaning collection. Aside from a protective film coating, Buoy items are made completely from marine waste!

Based in Yokohama, Buoy is a recycled plastic homeware brand with an unusual aspiration. By recycling marine plastic waste, it aims to contribute to the cleanup of the world’s oceans, with the hope that eventually there will be no plastic pollution to source its material from.

Buoy organizes its own litter collections, and shreds and recycles plastic litter into homeware using a patented process that can meld together different resins. No bonding agent or pigments are added, and its products’ vibrant hues are the result of carefully colour-sorted plastics.
