Designed by Oki Sato of Nendo, one of Japan's best-known and award-winning product designers, the Ceramic Japan Peel Cup is playful and so functional. It's all about simple details. A small section of the porcelain cup's edge looks like it has been gently peeled back to create a rest for a spoon or a hook to tie the string of a tea bag. A lid helps keep a brew warm, but can also be used as a dish for used tea bags or a mini side plate for biscuits or sweets. We also love how Sato has ensured that the Peel Cup is stackable, making it easy to store.

Ceramic Japan brings together contemporary designers with traditional ceramists in Seto, Aichi Prefecture, a region with a history of porcelain dating back to the 8th century. Porcelain clay is still sourced from the prefecture’s mountainous landscape and was originally fired using timber from local woodland.
