MINO-YAKI TOKUSA SUSHI PLATE

This rectangular plate may have been made to showcase a row of sushi, but we think its shape, size and design make it ideal for any side dish. Its border of tapered blue lines is a traditional Japanese pattern — Tokusa, inspired by its Japanese namesake of horsetail grass.

Tokusa is often seen as a symbol of wealth, perhaps because it grows in abundance in Japan but more likely because of the old phrase "Polishing gold with Tokusa increases its luster.” Here it's used to frame, accentuate and add luster to your dish.

Take a look at our matching Mino-Yaki Tokusa Noodle Bowl to create a stunning dining set, and peruse other Mino ware in our Mino-yaki collection.

Mino-yaki, believed to be the oldest form of artistic pottery produced in Japan, dates back to the Nara Period 710-794. Produced in the old Mino Province, in present-day Gifu Prefecture, it became popular for traditional tea ceremony vessels. Today, the styles of Mino-yaki are as varied as they are beautiful — from the warm rustic glazes of hand-thrown traditional Kiso Seto, Black Seto, Shino and Oribe ware to the soft pastels of modern tableware.
