Masterfully playful, House Martin’s Pop-Up Vase series is inspired by popup picture books — an idea so simple, yet so clever and absolutely striking. Made in Tsubame Sanjo, Niigata — home to Japan’s famed traditional metalworking industry — each vase is made from a single sheet of steel plate folded into a pop-out silhouette of a vessel. Behind each one is a hidden glass test tube to place a single bloom or sprig of foliage.
This Bottle version pairs a rotund muted pink bottle with a green background. Check out our House Martin Collection to see two other styles — a vibrant yellow pitcher with a grey background and a dusky blue carafe against off-white.
House Martin is an up-and-coming design collective of three talented Japanese designers: Shigeyuki Sugi, Gensuke Kishi and Yukimasa Hirota. They have all collaborated with metalworking manufacturers in Tsubame Sanjo to produce minimalist and playful designs that thoughtfully showcase the beauty and skilled craftsmanship behind Japanese metalware.
